SHaRK does not condone, permit, or tolerate any form of harassment. Harassment of another person, member or not, shall be grounds for immediate removal from the event. Further sanctions, up to and including termination of membership and/or denial of entry to any and/or all future events, may be determined at leadership's discretion.
Physical harassment is considered to be any form of physical touching that is not consensual. This includes, but is not limited to, non-consensual touching of a sexual or non-sexual nature or touching via a held or thrown object. This extends to the belongings of members and guests with the following caveat: if a person’s things have been left in an inconvenient location such as a walkway, they may be moved out of such a location. No other intentional touching of a person’s possessions without permission is allowable. Moving a person’s things out of a walkway should be done with the minimum amount of touching possible, and they should be moved the minimum distance possible to clear the walkway.
To avoid the appearance of impropriety and confusion amongst members, it is strongly preferred that attendees ask staff or volunteers do such moving of objects, however SHaRK recognizes that this is not always feasible and that obstructions and hazards in walkways may need to be dealt with more immediately. Individuals may also not attempt to “reserve” equipment by leaving their belongings upon it.
This definition does not exclude any other potential forms of physical harassment, and SHaRK reserves the right to determine whether an action falls under this guideline, regardless of whether it is intentional or unintentional.
Verbal harassment is considered to be any form of degrading or provocative language that is knowingly intended to bring distress, humiliation, anger, upset, anxiety, trauma, or any other negative emotional impact upon another person without their consent. This may include addressing a member or guest by a name that they are not comfortable being used in public, or revealing personal information about a person who has not consented to the release of such information. This includes revealing their employment status, gender status, relationship status, financial status or other such personal information. SHaRK reserves the right to determine whether such an action, whether intentional or not, falls under this guideline.
While most events at SHaRK do not allow photography, some events may allow sanctioned photographers, or generally allow photography by any attendee. If an event allows such, it shall be clearly indicated both in announcements. In such cases, photographs or videos taken of an individual may only be used with that individual’s express and clear written or verbal consent. Intentional use of a photograph or video for any purpose without an individual’s express consent shall be considered harassment and grounds for immediate termination of membership. All photos must be taken with care to ensure that non-consenting individuals do not end up in the background. To avoid confusion, it is strongly recommended that negotiation regarding photos be discussed prior to any photos being taken. SHaRK reserves the right to determine whether an intentional or unintentional action falls under this guideline.
Intentionally revealing an individual’s participation in SHaRK, events, or community to non-members shall be considered harassment and is grounds for immediate termination of membership. SHaRK reserves the right to determine whether an intentional or unintentional action falls under this guideline.
SHaRK does not condone attempts to “loophole” malicious behavior. Any actions intended to negatively impact the lives of others, member or not, that are not explicitly laid out in this policy may still be grounds for disciplinary action at the discretion of SHaRK.
